Role Requirements:

  • Full current Driving Licence
  • No more than 3 penalty points on your licence
  • No driving bans in the last 5 years
  • You must be flexible in your approach to work and prepared to work shifts
  • You must possess good customer service skills
  • You must be able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • You must have a UK/EU passport or leave to remain and work in the UK with at least 12 months remaining before the date of expiry

VEHICLE ENGINEER

We are looking to recruit Vehicle Engineers at our Westbourne Park Bus Garage. 

Successful candidates must have excellent core skills that are relevant to their trade and will also have detailed vehicle maintenance knowledge. The knowledge and experience would have been ideally gained through extensive working experience of commercial or passenger carrying vehicles. A time-served apprenticeship and appropriate qualifications, such as an NVQ level 3 or City & Guilds level 3 is desirable. The successful candidates should be able to demonstrate good team building skills and must hold a full, clean driving licence (holding a PCV licence would be a distinct advantage). 

The weekly pay for the role is £593.78 based on a 39 hour week, plus shift premiums if applicable.  There may be the opportunity to work some overtime and there will also be the requirement to work both the early and the late shift rota that will include some weekends.

OPERATIONS MANAGER, Whippet Coaches

Whippet Coaches is an exciting company running buses across Cambridgeshire. We are a dynamic business to work for and we want to become top of the class in the areas which we operate. An exciting opportunity now exists to join us as Operations Manager for our Whippet Coaches Depot in Swavensey, Cambridge. You will contribute to the running of the Depot, managing aspects of its operations/support and Engineering functions. You will assist the Depot General Manager in ensuring that the key performance indicators are achieved and some of your specific responsibilities are detailed below.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND AUTHORITIES:

  • Responsible for delivering Whippets safety standards using the Company Operating procedures and ensuring safe systems of work are established and maintained.
  • Responsible for ensuring that Depot operations and Engineering standards meet current legal requirements.
  • Responsible for the smooth running of the Engineering department
  • Responsible for ensuring the Depot delivers its agreed targets, particularly those that can be influenced by the staff groups you directly manage.  
  • Responsible for contributing to the effective financial control and reporting systems to enable the Depot to meet company accounting and audit requirements.
  • Responsible for contributing to the staff resources plan to ensure, at all times, that the Depot is adequately resourced to meet its workload requirements.
  • Proactively lead your direct reports ensuring that they are properly, fairly and regularly appraised, and that they are appropriately developed.
  • Responsible for ensuring, through effective management of the senior team, the overall effective leadership and management of all staff within the Depot.
  • Responsible for ensuring a harmonious and effective working relationship with the Depot based Trade Union representatives.
  • Responsible for delivering all short and long-term Depot Improvement Plans and for ensuring that you attain buy in to improvements from the senior team.

We are looking for an individual with previous experience of managing a team, but more important is your enthusiasm and passion for working in a forward thinking company that is keen to develop processes and procedures that benefit the business. Experience of managing in a similar industry and of managing to tight commercial contracts would be an advantage. Ideally you will be financial aware and have leadership skills to enable you to provide effective day to day direction to your team. A CPC in Passenger Transport would be a distinct advantage.

This salary will be between £35,000 and £40,000 dependent on experience.

TRAINER (In-house)

The Tower Transit business is now looking to expand its Recruitment and Training Team based at our Atlas Road depot in Park Royal and we now have an exciting opportunity for an In House Trainer. As a key player in this small team you will contribute to delivering training, primarily in a class room environment, although we are always exploring innovative ideas to improve the training experience. Primarily your role will be to deliver a new training course to all our Driving staff.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Inducting all new employees into the Company, driving, engineering and salaried staff, ensuring they receive the relevant information about the business.
  • Coordinating and delivering a brand new training course to all Drivers, this is likely to include travelling to all our three London locations and possibly our other businesses, in Perivale and Cambridge.
  • Assisting with the development and method of delivery of the Driver training courses, we are always keen to explore new ideas of making training interesting and memorable.
  • Ensuring that all the training delivered meets the requirements of the Tower Transit Group and the standards specified by Transport for London.
  • Ensure that you keep up to fate with changing Company Policies and Procedures to enable any Training Courses to be adapted, particularly relating to Health and Safety and major changes to procedures that will affect the Driving staff employed.
  • Undertake new and refresher training for drivers as requested by depots, for example Customer Care, Disability Awareness, Core Safety and Conflict Avoidance.
  • Ensuring company compliance with JAUPT regulations relating to Driver CPC qualifications.
  • Undertake any training and development activities at the request of your Line Manager.

We are looking for an individual who is agood communicator both written and verbally and able to demonstrate an ability to share information in a passionate and interesting way. You must be able to organise your time and deliver courses in a structured and logical way whilst remaining adaptable and flexible. Ideally you will have some experience of delivering and writing training courses, or have assisted in Training. A professional Training Qualification would be an advantage as would a PCV Licence although we are willing to train the right candidate to achieve their PCV licence.

The salary for the role will be £28,000.00 more may be available to an ideal candidate, working 40 hours per week ideally over 4 ½ days.
